What topics are okay with you in comics and what topics should be totally off the table?

For the LGTBQ+ population, the major turning point came with ‘National Coming Out Day’, where virtually ever gay (both sexes) comes out and admitted their sexuality to their relatives and work associates, which caused them all to reconsider their long-misbegotten beliefs. Unfortunately, that didn’t prevent the infighting, as politicians continually championed the gays—mainly since they had the ready capital to invest in favorable political campaigns, whereas the most-prosecuted groups never got a fair hearing from anyone, even those on the same side of the issue, as it essentially every ‘man’ for himself and screw everyone else.

For me, it’s more how relevant a comic is than how inappropriate it is. Thus I tend to reject many USA comics for the mostly comical violence mainly because it’s all explosions and mayhem with little actual death or injuries, which again fits the whole American psyche, big, bold with loud noises yet nothing of substance ever gets through.

And as others have noted, to retain the rights of free speech, we much continually push the boundaries, as simply avoiding unpleasant, unpopular topics is merely kowtowing to the most hateful and beligerent yet also the most vocal aspects of our society. No one ever gained any rights by letting the majority dictate what they were entitled to, it gained them because the people as a whole stood up and supported what was just and right.

Why didn't my ex fight for our relationship? He gave up so easily.

To a large degree, that depends on the source of the comics than anything else. For example, Japanese and S. Korean comics are more likely to target the more controversial topics (female-oriented gay porn, graphic violence, and generally more adult topics, while American comics focus on pushing their boundaries, yet never ever actually bending them, as they much such an easy target for regional politicians, as any state can impose their own restriction, limiting the national “Freedom of Speech” issues, yet those are easily contested and argued on a state level, and unless backed by a massive defensive funding effort, are very rarely overturned.

And now, as a result, even those limited gains have been washed away by those continually trying to roll back then clock to the absolute worst days of American history! Pick and side and stick with it folks, as when we bicker, we only make targets of ourselves in the public eye. If we can’t support each other, than why would anyone else?
